What Faculty Have To Say
Strengths (4)
- Practicing is vital for learning
- Independent work is key for constructive learning
- Prepares students for class
- Monitors class performance level
Weaknesses (8)
- Students don't do it
- Checking it is time consuming
- Not checking it encourages not doing it
- Might not be at the right level (too hard or too easy)
- Some students might need help completing it, and not learn from it
- Students may not understand the value of practicing
- Can be seen as busy-work or juvenile
- Can be seen as just a means to an end
Pedagogy Usage
Bucknell faculty was asked their best estimate for how often in the semester they used Homework and the average class time it took.
Average Duration: N/A
Remote Suggestions
Homework remains vital, because students still need opportunities to paractice the things they are being taught. This can be done in a variety of ways, similar to existing practices, but moved into an online format. Consider how much time you and they have to complete and grade each piece. Can you move to a √, √+ or √- system to speed things along? Try using peer-grading to have them share the grading load.
